Bungendore’s first quilt exhibition was held in 2006. Sheryl-Ann and Roy Schaefer thought that Bungendore needed an annual quilt show — and we did (we just didn't know it back then!). They organised the first two exhibitions in 2006 and 2007 with help from a few friends. Both exhibitions were a success but the Schaefers realised that they needed a formal quilting group for it to continue.

The result was the establishment of Bungendore Quilters Inc in 2008. Since then,
Bungendore Quilters has held a quilt exhibition every year, with the exception of the two covid years of 2020 and 2021. All our members are involved in some way or another in the show. Many friends over the years have also helped us and we have grown considerably since that first show in 2006.
 
We would like to thank Robyne d'Argeavel for her extraordinary assistance in hanging our exhibitions each year during our early years. Robyne's knowledge of colour and display are second to none. We would also like to make particular mention of and thank Stan d'Argeavel who has helped us with professional work in design, layout, printing, collating and advice for our many projects including our quilt exhibition, display stands, raffle and promotional signs during our early years. We very much appreciate his 'behind the scenes' assistance.
 
The exhibition in 2025 will be our eighteenth. It has grown so that we now have crowds of nearly seven hundred visitors over the weekend coming from all over NSW, Australia and quite a number from overseas. The BQI annual exhibition is now one of Bungendore's main visitor attractions each year.
