Octopus Under the Sea

This is my first quilt and I designed, pieced and appliqued it. I wanted to make this quilt for my family. I love going to the beach with my family. With help from Jo, my coach, the big octopus has a top hat and a bowtie because it is a very formal Octopus.

 

At the bottom of the quilt, there are some sea horses. The coral is their home and the seashells are their mail boxes. The two sea turtles got lost from the big pack of sea turtles and the octopus is stopping them from crossing.

The Bs

 

This is my first quilt and I designed, pieced and appliqued it and I also completed the binding. I wanted to make a baby quilt with animals on it. So I made a plan. As it developed, I loved the idea that all the animals started with the letter ‘B’. After many months of sewing and hard work, I have made this awesome quilt.

 

I would like to thank my teacher, Jo, for helping me and also Bronwyn for doing an excellent job on the quilting. I hope you like my quilt, and I bet you can’t find the beagle!!

Charlotte's Quilt

I made this quilt for my cousin Charlotte. I have started making quilts for all of my siblings and cousins, including myself. This is my second quilt. My first quilt is a cute Little Red Riding Hood one.

 

I sew quilts at my Nanna’s house and use up all her spare fabrics. When I started making this quilt, Charlotte was just a baby and did not have a favourite colour yet so I just made it in all the colours that I could.

 

I chose this horse pattern in the hope that she will share my love of animals. I plan on making a farm animal quilt next. It will be for Theodore, another of my cousins. I enjoy making quilts with my Nanna.

 

This quilt was made from a jelly roll. I stitched all the strips together, used the AccuQuilt to cut the horses, used the embroidery machine to stitch them on and then used the automated quilting machine to complete the quilting. I had assistance in learning to use each machine on practice pieces prior to working on my quilt. The pressing, application of spray adhesive for the applique and the binding were done by Nanna, however I got my “pressing licence” towards the end of this quilt as I turned ten and I pressed the finished quilt top with assistance.

 

Final touches on this quilt were made by Shennah Joiner of Foxlow Fabrics.

CHERRY (age 12)

Yellow Stripe

This quilt is made with Kaffe Fassett fabrics (jelly roll and by the metre), bought from the Makerie in Gungahlin. I looked at the jelly roll fabrics and chose which fabrics I wanted to sew together for my log cabin blocks. I then went back to the fabric store with mum to organise them all into the top panel and buy border materials. I wanted to keep with the Kaffe Fassett fabrics. When we put the blocks out very quickly a yellow stripe appeared.

 

I saved my money to pay to have the top quilted and chose the pattern and variegated thread.
